An independent review of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board's drug testing regime and increased accountability through being made subject to Freedom of Information requests are expected to be among the recommendations made by the cross-party Agriculture Committee following its summer hearings into allegations of doping in Irish racing.

In July, the 14-member committee convened three separate Oireachtas sittings to discuss the incendiary allegations made by leading trainer Jim Bolger that drug cheats are the "number one problem in Irish racing" and that he wasn't operating on "a level-playing field".

Bolger, who has not elaborated on his allegations but told the Sunday Independent that "there will be a Lance Armstrong in Irish racing", cited legal advice when declining to appear before the committee.
