Zamira digs deep as fillies in foal steal the show
Fillies in foal dominated proceedings at Tipperary's mixed programme on Thursday evening, headlined by the tough performance of the Willie McCreery-trained Zamira in the feature fillies' handicap.
Owned by John and Ita Malone from Newbridge, the daughter of New Approach is in foal to Exceed And Excel and had to dig deep from the front under a fine front-running ride by Billy Lee to follow up her recent win at Roscommon, for which she had earned a 9lb penalty.
"She's a very tough filly. Billy gave her a great ride and did everything right." said McCreery. "We'll have a look at some black type for her and there are some good handicaps at the Curragh on Derby weekend. She's tough and honest and we couldn't ask for much more from her."
The in-foal trend had been started an hour beforehand when the lightly raced Piazzini spreadeagled her rivals from the front in the sprint handicap with none of them able to live with her.
