There was an element of luck about the circumstances but Tom Bellamy again proved he is a rider for the big occasion as he was rushed off the substitutes’ bench to play a starring role on impressive Adonis Hurdle winner Master Blueyes.

Bellamy has had to be patient in the pecking order at Alan King’s prolific Barbury Castle yard but just 28 days after Ziga Boy gave him a big handicap chase success at Doncaster, the measured young jockey enjoyed a dream spare ride to register a first success at Graded level.

Bellamy’s joy came after King's number one Wayne Hutchinson had been stood down for concussion after a fall at Exeter the previous afternoon, a decision that clearly caused him frustration which was compounded by the Adonis result.
