A famous set of colours that used to fly high over jumps was donned in the lowly claimer by a relative unknown who could turn out to be one of the sensations of the season.

Rossa Ryan, 16, gave early notice of his promise in the saddle with victory on Willwams for Jared Sullivan, who once owned Buveur D'Air and Silviniaco Conti in tandem with Chris Giles before selling his jumping interests last year.

Sullivan was not present to see his Richard Hannon-trained three-year-old maiden edge out better-fancied stablemate Sans Souci Bay by a short head under Ryan, who claims 7lb.
