There was no more popular winner than The Kings Writ in the 3m handicap chase, as he was the first under rules for trainer Kayley Woollacott following the death of her husband Richard earlier this year, a tragedy that left racing reeling.

Woollacott took over the training licence at the couple’s yard in January after the death of her husband aged 40, and admitted the horse’s victory took a big weight off her shoulders.

She said: “It’s nice to get this one out of the way as the last couple of months or so have been trying times to say the least.
