Woods rides first winner as Rose blooms to perfection

The big smile on the face of apprentice Sebastian Woods said it all after he partnered his first ever winner when Monaco Rose, trained by Richard Fahey, took the spoils in the 1m4f apprentice handicap.

Woods, the son of former top international jockey Wendyll Woods, was having his eighth career ride and brought the four-year-old filly with a well-timed run to lead at the furlong pole before driving her out for a two-length call over Arrowtown.

Punters who latched on to the chance of Jeremy Noseda’s Me Too Nagasaki at the morning price of 10-1 were counting their winnings after the three-year-old, partnered by John Egan, just got the better of Wahash and was returned at half those odds.
