Winter bettered only by Minding and Finsceal Beo in last decade

Minding: one of the most exciting horses in training
Minding: still the joint-highest rated filly to have won the 1,000 Guineas in the last ten years with Finsceal Beo

Winter confirmed herself a vastly improved filly with success in the 1,000 Guineas on Sunday, producing an above-standard Racing Post Rating of 117, bettered by only Minding and Finsceal Beo in the previous ten years.

In contrast to the colts on Saturday, a well-run race resulted in a stretched field and offers encouragement that the first four are at least up to 1,000 Guineas expectations, with Winter's winning figure rating a length above the race standard.

Her cause may have been aided by the troubled run of stablemate and favourite Rhododendron, but she beat the rest convincingly and is clearly a filly on the up.
