Cheltenham Festival winner William Henry made a successful debut for new trainer Sam Thomas when taking the 3m1f beginners’ chase, three years on from his only previous appearance over fences.

The ten-year-old, a recruit from Nicky Henderson, was pulled up after jumping poorly on his chasing bow in November 2017 and has since made his name as a high-class hurdler, winning the Coral Cup in 2019.

Owner Dai Walters was keen to have another go over fences and William Henry made an encouraging second start with a comfortable success by four and three-quarter lengths under Sam Twiston-Davies.
