Three-year-old The Wagon Wheel disproved the theory that it is impossible to win a sprint handicap here from a wide draw by getting off the mark for the season in the 6f fillies' handicap.

Following her excellent effort when a neck runner-up to Golden Apollo in a valuable handicap at York, she looked to have a leading chance in the £25,000 event confined to her own sex.

Any confidence there was in her ability to run well, though, was severely tempered by her being drawn nine of nine, so instead of going off one of the favourites she was sent off at 10-1.
