Tuesday: Redcar

Tim Easterby heaped praise on Redcar specialist Give It Some Teddy after he continued his love affair with the track by claiming victory in the 7f handicap to give him a sixth course win.

The Lee Bond-owned eight-year-old stretched clear in the testing conditions to win by two lengths under Ben Robinson to bring up his half-dozen at the Cleveland venue from 16 starts, which have also included two seconds and three thirds.

Easterby said: "He loves the track, loves the ground and was drawn low, what more could you want? He just loves that ground – he's wonderful.

"He has trouble with his feet, but he's brilliant. Another day, another Redcar win for him."

While it was Redcar's last meeting of the season, Easterby is already eyeing up Give It Some Teddy's return to the track next year.

He added: "He likes it here between seven furlongs and a mile, but he got murdered in the straight mile final earlier this season. I dare say it'll be a similar campaign to this year next time and he'll be back here."

Easterby doubled up when Parys Mountain narrowly won the concluding mile apprentice handicap under Brandon Wilkie.

Dods delight

Michael Dods was in wife Carole's good books when Phoenix Fire provided her with a first winner of the year as an owner in the opening division of the 6f novice.

The son of Fast Company was the stable's second string, but relished the testing conditions to score by an easy six and a half lengths under Phil Dennis.

Dods said: "He has a good attitude. He's a grand little horse and was the only one who seemed to act on the ground.

"He's owned by my wife and is one we didn't sell as we thought we'd race him ourselves. I'm in the good books now."

Phoenix Fire's victory took Dods to within one of equalling last year's winning tally in a campaign which has seen the Darlington-based trainer surpass the £1 million prize-money mark for the first time.

Landmark near

Saffie Osborne maintained her fine run of form and edged closer to riding out her claim with a hard-fought victory on Cantora in the mile nursery.

Osborne is now just three winners shy of the 95 victories needed to ride out her claim and is determined to hit that milestone as quickly as possible.

"If I could get rid of my claim by the end of the weekend that would be amazing, especially at the end of the turf season," she said. "I will be in Bahrain and Dubai a bit, but I'll be shuttling between there and Britain over the winter."

Overrule obliges

Karl Burke warmed up for Dramatised's big-race date at Keeneland in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint by saddling Overrule to win the second division of the 7f novice – a race he had not been expected to run in.

"I wanted to run the horse we withdrew in the first [Flight Plan] in this, but then we realised it might split," Burke said.

"We thought we'd get him out quickly as he looked great. We can put him away now with a bit of confidence we have a nice horse for next year."
