What a difference a year makes as Mustashry wins Joel for Sheikh Hamdan
On a day sponsored by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell operation, it was fitting the feature race of the day, the Group 2 Shadwell Joel Stakes, was won by Mustashry in the owner's famous blue and white colours.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the five-year-old was a leading contender for the race 12 months ago but disappointed on slower ground, dead-heating for last place in seventh.
The son of Tamayuz has been a different proposition on quicker ground this season, winning three times from four outings – each time at a different trip – with the latest victory achieved by half a length.
