'We've always thought a lot of him' - Gin Coco and Boothill give Fry a double
Saturday: Newton Abbot
Trainer Harry Fry has his sights on more lucrative prizes for Gin Coco and Boothill after the pair signalled they both have a bright future.
Gin Coco managed to shrug off the attentions of a loose horse to justify odds of 1-3 in the 2m1f novice hurdle under Jonathan Burke.
Fry has pinpointed a valuable Grade 2 novice event at Cheltenham on November 13 as the next outing for the exciting six-year-old.
Gin Coco appeared to have an easy task after finishing second in a competitive handicap hurdle at the Punchestown festival in April.
“There were a few hairy moments with that loose horse around, especially before the second last and I’m delighted it all worked out,” said Fry.
“We’ve always thought a lot of him and we put our neck on the line sending him to Punchestown. We thought he would win the race and he very nearly pulled it off."
Boothill, also ridden by Burke, had been disappointing on his only previous outing over fences but easily took care of his three rivals in the 2m½f novice handicap chase.
“We’ve always thought of him as a chaser and he jumped nicely today. That opens up plenty of options,” said Fry.
New recruit
Keiran Burke moved on to the ten-winner mark for the season as new recruit Potters Venture made all in the 3m2f handicap chase.
“It’s going well for us, we’ve already passed last season’s total of six,” said Burke. “We wanted another horse for our racing club and we got this one for just £5,200 at the Ascot sales. He looked well handicapped and should give us a bit of fun."
Pic of the bunch
Champion trainer Paul Nicholls had runners in all eight races but only managed the one success with Pic D’Orhy justifying odds of 4-5 with a comfortable success in the 2m5f intermediate chase.
