Monday: Plumpton

Trainer Nick Gifford admitted he was not shocked to see Fairway Freddy take victory in the 2m3½f handicap chase.

Despite the 7-2 winner not coming close to last season's form so far this campaign, Gifford was confident that the nine-year-old would belatedly get off the mark.

He said: "It wasn't a surprise. He may have been out of form all season, but with this particular horse loves good ground and he loves a tight track.

"It probably wasn't a competitive race, but he is a fun horse when the ground dries up and on last year's form he had every right to win it. The handicapper dropped him at the end of last season and he's been given a chance."

He added: "We're not done with him yet. We hope to go back there for the Easter bank holiday meeting because there is a race he won last year and that’s where he'll go next."

Fishcake delivers

Fishcake, a half-sister to dual Cheltenham Festival winner Monkfish, scored on her hurdling debut in the 2m4½f novice hurdle for trainer Nicky Henderson.

Under Nico de Boinville, the five-year-old was making her second career start, having previously finished seventh in a bumper at Wincanton in February.

"She is a nice mare, she won that well, jumped very well and stayed. She wants every yard of two and a half so that trip was great," said De Boinville.

"She has a very nice pedigree and we knew that, so she was bred to stay the longer trips."

Double for Mullins

Seamus Mullins and jockey Micheal Nolan teamed up to seal a quick-fire 13-1 double on the card.

The double was kick-started by Morfee in the 3m1f handicap hurdle and completed by I See You Well, who made all the running in the 3m½f handicap chase.
