'We're living the dream for him' - Justcallmepete a fitting tribute for owner

Saturday: Southwell

Owner Sarah Anstiss was close to tears after Justcallmepete, a horse named after her late father, secured a four-timer in the 6f handicap.

Anstiss set up Peter Clarke Racing with her husband Graham as a tribute to her father and they have unearthed a diamond in the James Evans-trained four-year-old.

Since being tried in blinkers last month, Justcallmepete has won four races in a row, starting at Lingfield before a hat-trick here in the space of 24 days.

"I'm feeling quite emotional as I feel like my father is up there helping us get to where we want to be," said Anstiss. "He wanted to own racehorses but unfortunately never got the opportunity so we're living the dream for him.

"The horse has been absolutely phenomenal and we couldn't do it without James and Jane [Evans]."

It was a case of deja vu as Justcallmepete, upped in class carrying a 6lb penalty, edged out Intervention under Dougie Costello, just as he had done six days ago.

On the impact of the headgear, the jockey said: "He lost his way but the blinkers have tightened him up and helped him jump from the gates, and he's relaxing a lot more. He's on an upward curve."

Knockout blow

Former trainer Will Kinsey looked like he had done a few rounds with Mike Tyson as he welcomed back a rare winner as an owner courtesy of Jubilee Girl in the 1m3f fillies' handicap.

Kinsey, who held a training licence for around five years, is now a breeder and pinhooker and suffered a broken nose and a few sore ribs after an altercation with a foal on Thursday.

"I was holding a foal for the blacksmith, who was trimming its feet because it's going to the sales tomorrow, and it reared up and caught me straight in the face," he said.

Kinsey explained the Karl Burke-trained Jubilee Girl, who emerged from the fog with Capparis before getting up by a short-head, is only running in his name temporarily.

"She was in my name just short term and they're going to set up a syndicate," he said. "We didn't want to miss today because Karl was keen to run and the idea is we'll step her up in trip and she'll go hurdling. She's by Nathaniel, who is a great stallion."

Quick turnaround

Ustath, second at the track the day before, went one place better in the 6f classified stakes under Sam James, who brought up a double following an earlier victory on Jubilee Girl.

Back to form

Acai, who chased home Mill Reef winner Sakheer at Haydock in September, recorded his first win when denying favourite King's Gem in the 7f handicap.
