'We're in a good place' - Tuer optimistic as Abduction keeps yard on course
Wednesday: Catterick
Grant Tuer is unlikely to beat last year's winners total but Abduction's success in the 7f handicap continued his march towards his main aim - an improved prize-money haul.
Abduction overcame his early keenness to score by half a length and Tuer is confident there is more to come when everything drops right.
"I'm not convinced the race went entirely to plan," said Tuer. "We did intend to tuck in but he broke too well, was too keen and didn't handle the bend, so I was delighted to see him get up."
Tuer posted a career-best tally of 49 winners in 2021. He is now on 22 for 2022 but his main focus is improving the quality of his string rather than beating that.
"I think we'll struggle numerically to beat last year, when I think we overdid ourselves and overachieved a little bit. If we could beat last year's prize-money healthily I'd be delighted."
Tuer is currently £71,231 behind last year's prize-money total of £328,187.
He added: "We're trying to up the quality all the time and we have a nice batch of two-year-olds that haven't come out yet - going forward we're in a good place."
Easy for Bedi
Jessica Bedi trained and rode her own Pateen to success this month and continued to prove her versatility by comfortably winning the amateur jockeys' handicap aboard the Tina Jackson-trained Jamih.
"I'm really happy, it's nice to get a bit of success on the board after a long spell with a lot of placings," said Bedi.
"He turned in and I didn't think he'd have much of a turn of foot but he picked up for me really nicely – he made my life very easy!"
