It could have been Welsh National day rather than the Cambridgeshire equivalent in East Anglia as Court Frontier landed the fourth running of the marathon for Paul Morgan.

The South Wales trainer had rerouted his improving type to the longest race at the track after missing the cut for the Eider Chase at Newcastle the previous weekend. The nine-year-old would have arguably gone close in that contest judging by the way he slammed Cyclop by 14 lengths to complete a hat-trick under Tom O'Brien.

Christian Williams, assistant to Morgan, said: "It's nice prize-money but not as nice as the Eider. We may look at the Midlands National now."
