'We’ll head to Cheltenham' - dominant Sizing Pottsie pleases David Pipe on debut
Monday: Ayr
Sizing Pottsie showed his class by brushing aside his rivals on his debut for David Pipe in new colours shared by top hurdler Honeysuckle.
Despite being a Grade 2 winner over fences, there were doubts over the eight-year-old's hurdling form after no wins and a bad fall on his last attempt at Fairyhouse in January 2021.
However, he put those doubts to bed emphatically, quickening clear early to score by 18 lengths under Tom Scudamore in the 2m novice hurdle.
Pipe said: "He's done what we expected today; still being a novice hurdler meant we could take an opportunity like this.
"I'm sure he’s had a nice blow and we'll head to Cheltenham for the November meeting in the two-mile conditions chase.
"He was a very good horse with Jessica Harrington. It's never easy when you're on such a short one like that, but he got the job done, so we're pleased."
All change for Big Changes
After no wins on his first six starts, Big Changes made it two in a row over fences in the 3m handicap chase for Laura Morgan, following up his first victory at Sedgefield eight days ago.
It was a patient ride from Lewis Dobb, who guided the five-year-old into contention from the rear to beat a battling Camp Belan.
Richards at the double
Nicky Richards landed a quickfire double with Hard Iron taking the 2m3½f novice handicap hurdle under Callum Bewley. Tfou followed suit in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase, the beneficiary of Gandhi Maker’s blunder at the last.
