'We'll go on for one more' - another stop added to Stradivarius farewell tour

Such was the excitement surrounding Stradivarius and his potential swansong at Glorious Goodwood that even home secretary Priti Patel came down to catch a quick glimpse of him in the pre-parade ring.

The popular stayer was the star attraction and Great British Racing pulled out all the stops to celebrate his remarkable career, mindful of the fact his bid for a record-extending fifth Goodwood Cup could be his final race, but reports of his decline proved greatly exaggerated.

It is not yet known whether Patel joined racegoers in having a photo with Stradivarius on one of the digital selfie screens at the track, nor if she took home one of the thousands of Stradivarius flags handed out to racegoers as they arrived for the opening day of the meeting.
