Having trained two Grand National winners Nigel Twiston-Davies knows a thing or two about staying power and the trainer certainly had to call on his stamina reserves after cycling to the course from his Gloucestershire base.

The AA's route planner reckons the trip is 32 miles, although that is using four wheels and not two.

"Don't be silly!" Twiston-Davies said when asked why he wasn't sporting some skin-tight Chris Froome-style gear.
