Well-bred Malinello gets off the mark for in-form Pauling

Malinello bounded clear to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking for in-form trainer Ben Pauling in the 2m4½f novice hurdle.

The five-year-old, a half-brother to useful chaser Cogry, built on the promise of his second at Kempton last time under Daryl Jacob, who pushed him out to finish 12 lengths clear of favourite Only The Bold.

"It was a really good performance," said Pauling. "He had run really well in some decent races and we were sure he was a nice horse but it's great to see him do it on the track, especially in that fashion."
