Wedge chips in with first winner as Williams' number one rider

Adam Wedge cemented his new position as stable jockey to Evan Williams after delivering Cape Caster with a telling late run to get up and deny Today Please for the 2m½f handicap chase.

Williams recently lost the services of the recently retired Paul Moloney and explained his reasoning behind Wedge’s promotion. He said: "Adam has been number two at the yard for a long time and we are all about using home-grown talent - not cherry picking from someone else.

"Adam is a very capable young jockey and when the time came for Paul to retire it was always going to be the case that Adam would step up; he has the support of all the owners in the yard and I am certain he will make a good job of his new role."
