Webber's Gwafa takes fourth in Copa de Oro

A sixth trip to San Sebastian, Spain, in the past four years failed to yield a winner for Cropredy-based trainer Paul Webber although Swinton Hurdle scorer Gwafa ran a fine race to finish fourth in the Copa de Oro.

The 1m4f contest, the third-richest Listed race in Europe worth €68,000, went to Flanders Flame, a previous winner of the Spanish Guineas who was formerly trained by Richard Fahey and officially rated 54 in Britain.

Gwafa, a half-brother to Webber's former stable star Australia Day – a past winner at San Sebastian – ran on strongly under Oscar Urbina in the closing stages to claim fourth on the line.
