'We won't be swerving the big days' - Vaughan buoyed by promising chase debut
Monday: Kempton
Dalamoi looks to have the makings of a promising chaser with some big days ahead after skipping around a grey and murky Kempton under Alan Johns on his debut over fences in the 2m4½f novice handicap.
The five-year-old jumped exuberantly, tracking the leader before kicking clear of one of his fellow 7-2 co-favourites Quick Draw at the third-last.
Delighted trainer Tim Vaughan said: "It's just nice to have him back to form. I felt last year it tailed off a bit towards the end of the season. I couldn't really put my finger on it, but the summer grass has done him a world of good. I was thrilled with the way he jumped and he travelled lovely too, so hopefully he can keep progressing."
Vaughan added: "We won't be swerving the big days. There's a two-and-a-half-mile novice handicap on King George day. He's obviously enjoyed it out there today so that will certainly be in the back of our minds."
Henderson machine in gear
A 27-1 treble made it a profitable day for Nicky Henderson, with Nico de Boinville getting the ball rolling aboard hurdling debutant Attacca in the 2m novice hurdle won by Epatante in 2018.
The 2m5f handicap hurdle featured a Seven Barrows one-two with Call Me Lord getting the better of stablemate Captain Morgs by three-quarters of a length for his first victory since winning the International Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2019.
Tweed Skirt made an impressive start to her chasing career when she bolted up by 32 lengths under De Boinville in the 2m4½f handicap chase.
