'We thought he couldn't get beat' - Wind Your Neck In leaves David Evans excited
Wind Your Neck In stamped his credentials as a possible future stakes horse after making it third time lucky when running out a ready winner of the mile novice.
The David Evans-trained colt, who was having his third start over course and distance, had been unlucky the time before when beaten a short head, but he made amends by upsetting the John and Thady Gosden-trained favourite Israr under Ryan Moore.
The winning trainer said: "He was very unfortunate last time and we thought he couldn't get beat. It's always nice to see them win. It's a bit of a weight off your shoulders now he's gone and done it.
"Hollie Doyle rode him first time out and really liked him, she said he could be a stakes horse, and Ryan just confirmed that."
Wind Your Neck In was the second leg of a double for Moore following Hannibal Barca’s victory in the second division of the 7f novice.
Evans added: "Experience counts for a lot and he had Ryan Moore on his back, which counts for a lot more.
"He's something to look forward to next year but he might not run again until then – I’ll leave that to Jason [Maguire, racing manager] and the owners [Paul and Clare Rooney], they’ll decide that one."
Double delight for Crowley
Jim Crowley capped a successful day as Ribhi edged the feature 6f conditions stakes, the jockey having also struck earlier when Wanees defied a 6lb penalty in the first division of the 7f novice event.
Crowley, however, was suspended for two days over his use of the whip following Wanees' victory.
