'We have to keep it going' - Thomson and Mania strike again with Faithfulflyer
Sunday: Kelso
Sandy Thomson and Ryan Mania continued their red-hot partnership as Faithfulflyer returned to winning ways in the 2m handicap hurdle.
The pair have teamed up to land five victories from 11 runners since the turn of the year, operating at a 45 per cent strike-rate, and the trainer is pleased with the yard's progress.
Thomson said: "We're doing really well and we just have to keep it going. The horses still ran well on Saturday even if they didn't win, but we had a nice winner today.
"We have to hope the weather holds so we can keep everything ticking along."
Faithfulflyer was running over two miles for the first time since his debut for the stable in July, and Thomson believes the six-year-old can perform well over any distance if conditions are suitable.
He said: "Obviously it was a big risk dropping so far back in trip, but he handles the ground and I'm delighted with him.
"He didn't quite stay last time as it was soft and two miles six furlongs at Kelso was a bit too far for him, but he's very versatile and could probably win over three miles on good ground or two miles on soft ground."
Striking effort
The Jennie Candlish-trained Fortified Bay produced a solid performance to win the 2m5½f handicap chase under Sean Quinlan.
The 11-year-old had been pulled up on his previous two starts this season but returned to winning ways in finishing ten lengths clear of Caboy.
Double joy
Lucinda Russell claimed a quickfire double as Traprain Law and Thereisnodoubt justified favouritism in the 2m novice hurdle and the Class 3 handicap hurdle on the card.
