'We get on really well' - Erika Parkinson rides out 7lb claim on flawless Finery
Thursday: Southwell
Jockey Erika Parkinson enjoyed a landmark day as she rode out her 7lb claim aboard the Mick Appleby-trained Finery in the second division of the 7f handicap.
Parkinson, who first got on the five-year-old when landing a Leicester handicap at 40-1 last September, made all on the mare to secure a 20th career success.
Finery has been responsible for a quarter of Parkinson’s career wins and Appleby said of the apprentice rider: "That’s Erika’s 7lb gone, which is good. She works hard in the yard and deserves the rides.
"Finery is improving and seems to have got her act together, Erika gets on well with her and she’s done that quite well."
On the prolific partnership which has produced five victories, Parkinson said to Sky Sports Racing: "We get on really well and I think she likes the way I ride her.
"She likes to be up there on the pace so I let her do her thing. We’ve got plenty of runners over the winter months so there'll be plenty of opportunities for me to claim."
Ton for Tudhope
Another jockey celebrating a milestone was Danny Tudhope, who notched a century of winners for this year aboard Banddar in the 5f maiden for trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
The Godolphin-owned gelding justified odds-on favouritism to get off the mark at the fourth attempt. Tudhope swiftly moved to 101 winners when taking the closing mile handicap on Richard Spencer's Superstar Dj.
Penalty no problem
Perdika followed up last Monday’s win at Wolverhampton as Kevin Stott guided the filly to back-to-back wins under a penalty in the 7f novice.
The rider completed a double aboard the Charlie Hills-trained Vaynor in the concluding 1m6f handicap.
