Via Dolorosa makes it a procession as David Pipe saddles across-the-card double
Friday: Fakenham
David Pipe kicked off a good day when Via Dolorosa made all the running to land the Prince Carlton Handicap Chase at the Norfolk track.
The 11-4 chance had a low head carriage but a high cruising speed in the three-miler to back up a recent return to winning ways at Southwell.
Winning jockey Philip Armison's 7lb claim offset the penalty his mount picked up that day and the duo didn't see another rival before beating Potters Legend by 20 lengths.
The win initiated an across-the-card double for Pipe whose Olympe De Gouges was a 25-1 winner at Doncaster 15 minutes later.
Double Cannon
Tom Cannon opened Cheltenham week with a win on Edwardstone for Alan King in the Arkle Chase and ended it with victory for the same trainer in the featured Silver Cup Handicap Hurdle on Restitution for a first win over obstacles in the £25,000 contest.
Cannon had earlier won on 4-6 favourite Hiway One O Three, who easily landed the 2m4f handicap hurdle for Chris Gordon.
Kendrick's Coole
Max Kendrick registered his first winner of 2022 when getting Coole Well home from an unlikely position turning for home to land the 2m claiming hurdle.
The 6-4 favourite was going one better than in 2020 in the five-runner contest when running down long-time leader Scudamore, who was a 1-33 chance on the exchanges jumping the last.
The market leader was available at 4-7 in the morning but Kendrick rewarded those who kept the faith with Jake Coulson's gelding.
