Veteran Thompson lands a double to get off mark for the season

In February last year Victor Thompson, 75, was on the verge of quitting after 40 years training his own horses. But he didn't, he employed ex-Flat jockey Colin Halpa and kept going.

He said: "I still ride out four lots a day and I'm pleased I carried on as I love my horses."

Sadly this hasn't been the best of seasons for him as prior to this meeting the Northumberland trainer hadn't had a winner.
