Pour La Victoire proved age is just a number when bravely holding on to land the opening 7f handicap at 14-1 for trainer Tony Carroll.

The ten-year-old, who holds the record for the most wins at Brighton with ten, was winning for the 16th time on his 107th start. He took the lead in the straight under a powerful ride from Hector Crouch.

Pour La Victoire stayed on well to beat De Little Engine by a nose in a photo-finish, with the favourite Desert Land rallying late for third.
