John Daniell proved it is never too late to get off the mark, as the 14-year-old recorded his first ever win under rules in the 3m novice handicap chase at Uttoxeter for Grant Cann.

The veteran has been prolific on the point-to-point scene over the years, scoring ten times from 26 runs, and actually recorded his first pointing victory before any of his rivals had even been born.

Harry Cobden, who is only six years older than his mount, gave the 13-2 shot a lovely ride and was delighted to play his part in a special victory for Cann.
