Veracious stepped down in class to secure a first Group victory in the Atalanta Stakes, having twice finished third at the top level.

The four-year-old came up short against four-time Group 1 winner Alpha Centauri in the Coronation Stakes at Ascot and it was a similar story in the Nassau at Goodwood, won by Wild Illusion.

It was not the smoothest of runs under Ryan Moore, but Veracious kicked into gear in the final stages of her Group 3 debut, running out a length and a quarter clear of game front-runner Awesometank.
