To say the chase career of smart hurdler Value At Risk had not gone to plan would be something of an understatement.

Two falls last season and a comprehensive defeat when sent off at 4-7 on his comeback this month will have tested the patience of even his biggest supporter Dan Skelton, but the Marc Huglin-owned seven-year-old finally got his act together at the fourth attempt in the 2m4½f novice chase.

Having travelled powerfully in behind chase debutant Wishing And Hoping, Value At Risk took over the lead two out, though he idled in front and was challenged all the way to the line by the runner-up.
