Valdermoro justifies Fahey's high opinion as late lunge lands Acomb spoils
The entries Valdermoro holds told the story and so did the words spoken by Richard Fahey, whose admiration for the juvenile was clear following his fast-finishing success in the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes.
For most of the Group 3 contest it appeared the spoils would be landed by Ballydoyle, but although Harpocrates ran a mighty race from the front in first-time blinkers he was eventually reeled in by Doncaster victor Valdermoro, who stuck to his task pleasingly when asked to chase down the leader by Tony Hamilton.
Entry money has already been paid to put the son of Declaration Of War in the Dewhurst, Royal Lodge and Champagne Stakes, but given he cost owner Martyn Macleod only 50,000gns, and with the Acomb having offered £56,710 to the winner, the Valdermoro finances are looking rather healthy.
