A fascinating Coral-Eclipse saw the older horses just hold sway as Ulysses continued the progress he'd shown this year with another career-best Racing Post Rating of 124+.

This wasn't the strongest Eclipse. It looked to be lacking a star performer beforehand, with the pre-race standard falling below that expected. But in posting an RPR of 124 Ulysses falls only just shy of the race-standard 125. Having travelled strongly into contention there could be more to come – which may well be required if he is to add to this first Group 1 success.

Barney Roy set the pre-race standard on this year's form with an RPR of 122. In proving best of the three-year-olds he has improved again, returning an RPR of 124+, and having now confirmed his stamina there should be more to come in line with his progressive profile.
