Trio of short-priced favourites could be decisive on climactic final day
Paddy Power/Betfair could face double payout on leading trainer market
Bookmakers may be anticipating a wide open Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup, but elsewhere on Friday's card a trio of well-backed ante-post favourites lurk with the potential to put a wrecking ball though the hopes of layers or punters.
Defi De Seuil (JCB Triumph Hurdle), Death Duty (Albert Bartlett) and On The Fringe (St James’s Place Foxhunter) have been trading at shorter than 2-1 for weeks and the potential not just for ante-post punters but, more tellingly, those that strike short-price multiples on the day, is clear to see.
"Cue Card, Djakadam and Native River are vying for Gold Cup favouritism, while Defi Du Seuil, Death Duty and On The Fringe are hot favourites, and so while bookies have come out on top so far this week, that could all change on the busiest betting day of the festival if results go against us," said Coral’s David Stevens.
