When the going gets tough Venetia Williams gets going and with jockeys describing the ground as sticky, testing and very hard work, the trainer’s red-hot form continued with a 112-1 treble.

Unseasonably dry weather at the start of the season meant it was a slow start to the campaign for Williams, but since the new year she has unleashed a flurry of winners and raced onto 41 victories for the season thanks to Grand Turina in the 2m novice hurdle, Buttercup in the 2m4f novice chase for mares and newcomer Shivermetimbers in the bumper.

“The risks of injury are so much higher on dry ground so I didn’t run them,” said Williams. “Maybe I was being a bit wet, for want of a better expression, but we’re making up for lost time.”
