Training mainstay Hourigan rules out retirement after Humm Baby scores

Michael Hourigan is not the retiring kind. “You're waiting for me to say something else now boys. Come on, ask the question.”

The trainer has coaxed the best out of horses like Beef Or Salmon, Mossbank and A New Story, but after sending out his latest winner, Humm Baby, the time came to ask the inevitable question. The 70-year-old is not for giving us the news we are all expecting. No, he is not going out on a winner.

Winning rider David Mullins was in nappies when Hourigan dominated Irish racing just like Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott are now, but while the trainer acknowledged he’s operating in a new era, he made it be known Humm Baby wouldn’t be his last winner.
