The Curragh starting the second leg of its opening Classic weekend of the season on the backfoot after a barrage of criticism for the racegoer experience on day one was as regrettable as it was inevitable.

Before a race was run in anger at the headquarters of Irish racing on Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas day, the executive was on the defensive.

Inclement weather 24 hours earlier had exacerbated the less-than-salubrious feel to what are effectively third-rate facilities on the building site that now runs parallel to one of the finest turf racetracks in the world.
