Top Irish amateur Derek O'Connor's sole mount at Ludlow was a winning one as he produced a never-say-die ride on Kilfilum Cross in the amateur riders' handicap chase.

The winner showed a tendency to jump to his left throughout the race on his first start for Henry Oliver and had to dig deep to hold off Uhlan Bute by a neck.

"We felt a bit of pressure with one of the top amateurs coming over but he was given a beautiful ride by Derek," said Oliver, "He seems in fabulous order and really had to battle."
