The most welcome of tonics was received by 93-year-old owner Bill Booth despite watching from afar as Coole Lion struck for the first time under rules in the 3m novice handicap chase.

Booth, who owns horses with Caroline Bailey, Alex Hales and Dan Skelton, has been under the weather recently but enjoyed his first winner of the new jumps season with the lightly raced six year-old.

Sean Bowen’s mount, trained by Bailey, found plenty for pressure to deny Lough Salt by half a length on his first start in handicap chase company.
