Tom Ward, a former assistant to Richard Hannon, celebrated his first winner as a trainer when newcomer Vintage Rascal landed a gamble in the mile novice stakes at Windsor.

The son of Nathaniel was sent off at 8-1, having been available at 33-1 in the morning, before powering through the mud to complete a quick double for Tom Marquand.

Ward, who is based temporarily at Charlie Mann's yard at Upper Lambourn, saddled his first runner in August and was tasting success at the ninth attempt.
