Talk about friends reunited. Meeting up with an old pal for the first time since his schooldays led to a 28-1 winner of the Gosforth Park Cup for Tom Marquand.

He was always in command on the 11-year-old sprinter, who defied his odds with a length-and-a-quarter win, and then recalled their earlier association.

"I used to ride him when I was at school but I haven't ridden him since," said Marquand, 22. "I never thought I'd get the chance to ride him in a race.
