Time For Mabel defies drift to land final-day feature for O'Grady

The curtain closed on the most picturesque stage in Irish racing yesterday after four memorable shows. Time For Mabel was the headline act on day four as he landed the feature 2m1f handicap hurdle under a confident ride from Andrew Lynch.

The July festival at Killarney is one of the most popular get-togethers among Irish racing fans and the weather was kind, the drink flowed and the banter was as good as ever.

Those who backed Time For Mabel certainly enjoyed themselves. Edward O'Grady's improving five-year-old eased out to 6-1 before the off, having been as short as 7-2 half an hour earlier, but he defied the drift in fine style and could have made a late claim for the Guinness Galway Hurdle, Ireland's richest jumps race, if the handicapper shovels on the pounds for this triumph.
