A successful bid on behalf of fellow trainer Conor Dore at the horses-in-training sale came back to haunt Mick Appleby when a gamble on his runner Topamichi in the 1m4f handicap was foiled.

Step forward 25-1 chance Throckley, whom Appleby had purchased on behalf of his counterpart for 8,000 guineas at Newmarket last month, who left the strong 11-4 favourite back in second.

Despite the starting price, Dore was not surprised by the success having worked his new recruit at the track last weekend.
