'They've been running well' - Enormouse win gives Woollacott big reason to smile

Relief was Kayley Woollacott's overriding emotion after Enormouse became her first winner since May when landing the 2m3½f handicap chase.

Woollacott took over the licence in 2018 following the death of her husband Richard and became a Grade 1-winning trainer that year when Lalor struck at Aintree's Grand National meeting.

However, her stable star was switched to champion trainer Paul Nicholls last summer and Woollacott has been on the cold list since.

"They have been running well, making the frame, but finding one or two too good," she said.

"Richard used to pull his hair out about the stats, so I don't look at them. I try to be realistic. I don't have the best horses, but if they're running well that's all you can ask.

"I hope we can have a nice time between now and the end of the season. I like where we are with 15 horses [under rules] but everyone wants a really good one. It'd be amazing to find another Saturday horse, but I know how difficult that is.

"Losing Lalor was a massive disappointment, but I've been through enough to know you've got to take these things on the chin and there was no falling out with his owner David [Staddon]."

Woollacott had withdrawn Eros from Enormouse's race because of the rain and added: "I was worried they'd do each other as Enormouse would make it a test and too tough for Eros to stay on that ground, but then Enormouse would get beat because he'd be too slow!"
