Judge Di Clark could not split their horses but the trainers' CVs – and the age on their birth certificates – are very easy to tell apart.

While Fozzy Stack is officially in just his second season, Paul Cole has been training since 1968, based at the Whatcombe Estate in Oxfordshire with which his name has been synonymous since 1986.

The up-and-coming trainer whose Son Of Rest gave Ireland its first taste of Ayr Gold Cup success is 38 and the legend whose Baron Bolt shared the spoils on the line is more than twice that age at 77.
