'The way he’s done that, we can’t moan' - Rare Edition delights Longsdon
Saturday: Doncaster
Rare Edition made it two from two over hurdles and notched his third victory in a row, with a resounding success in the 2m½f novice hurdle under Gavin Sheehan.
It was an impressive performance by the Charlie Longsdon-trained five-year-old, who locked horns with second-favourite Cillian’s Charm throughout. He outpaced his rival and quickened easily, pulling away up the straight to win by a widening eight and a half lengths.
Longsdon said: “He has done that pretty impressively to be fair to him. He’s still quite novicey in his jumping but he’s got to learn and he is learning.
"Winning a novice under a penalty takes some sort of engine and the way he’s done that, we can’t moan.”
He added: “There’s no point rushing it. He’s potentially a very nice horse for the future, not just now, over fences and further. We’ll have to step him up in grade, so we’ll take our time and find the right race in the new year.”
Irish impression
Irish raider Filey Bay made a smart impression on his first start for Emmet Mullins, shedding his maiden tag at the eighth time of asking under David Meyler.
The six-year-old was produced to challenge at the second-last and skipped over it well to pull clear of Hurricane Ali by six lengths.
Feeling Good
After making the frame on her last three races, Touchy Feely escaped her beaten favourite tag in the 2m3½f novice hurdle, adding the gloss for Nicky Henderson on a triumphant day for team Seven Barrows with four winners at Newbury and Doncaster.
