A rainbow appeared over Cleeve Hill not long after the Greatwood Hurdle. Quite when the pot of gold will turn up is still anybody's guess.

Looking out across a near empty racecourse, one normally full of folk and fun this Sunday afternoon, there was that ongoing sense things are just not fair right now. For the connections of some of those who have been agonisingly undone on the track, there were likely also feelings of injustice.

For many a gallant loser there is an equally gallant winner. Nobody could have begrudged Put The Kettle On her victory in the Shloer Chase, but your heart did go out for Duc Des Genievres, in front almost everywhere bar the line. There was equally not an ounce of effort held back by Ramses De Teillee in the marathon chase, yet it was impossible not to feel sorry for Yala Enki, who battled so hard under top weight, only to be denied by a short head.
