'The perfect way to come back' - Drumlee Watar returns in style for Greatrex

Warren Greatrex believes he made the right decision in resting Drumlee Watar after he made a winning return in the 2m7f novice chase.

The nine-year-old was making his first start in 105 days and finished three-quarters of a length in front of Game Socks.

Explaining why Drumlee Watar has been absent from the track, Greatrex said: "He’s been in training for a long time and he looked a bit jaded to me, so we gave him that time off to freshen up.

"It was the perfect way to come back really. In the winter months, trying to win novice chases is fairly hard off his rating but in the summer there is a chance and the break has helped."

Winning start

Oceanline made a winning start for David Pipe to complete a double on the day for the trainer.

A £55,000 purchase at the Goffs UK Spring Sale in May, the four-year-old justified favouritism when landing the 2m4f novice hurdle.

"Oceanline has been going well at home and we were hoping for a big run. He had some consistent form when he was with Alan King and it was a nice performance," said Pipe.

"He was a good runner on the Flat, but he was only running over two miles so we wanted to step him up in trip and it has worked out nicely. We will go back to the Flat with him."

Earlier on the card, Pipe's D’Jango recovered from a mistake at the second-last to strike in the 2m7f handicap chase.
