'The jumps side is gathering momentum' - West enjoying best of both codes

Adam West admits his interest in jumps is "gathering momentum" as success in the 2m½f novice chase with Noahthirtytwored bettered his tally from the whole of last season.

The six-year-old was a four-length winner from Byzantine Empire on his chasing bow to land his fourth win of the season already and a ninth from just 16 runners for West this campaign.

"I'm totally confident in his ability when he gets into a fight," the trainer said. "He knuckles down and shows real appetite to win.

"Where he was progressing over hurdles he was only winning by small margins because that’s his style. I think he can go back and climb through the handicaps given the way he runs."

Based in Epsom, West has predominantly built a reputation on the Flat since beginning his training career in 2016, but is enjoying training under both codes.

He added: "The jumps side of things appears to be gathering a lot of momentum. I’m very happy, I really enjoy the jumps.

"We’ve had a really positive two years, long may it continue. It’s all guns blazing into the new season from here."

Double on the day

Milton Harris enjoyed a double, which kicked off with Mr Yeats's emphatic win in the 3m2½f handicap hurdle under Bradley Harris, before Mitchell Bastyan rode Appreciate to success the 2m1f handicap hurdle.

Tight Turnaround

Sam Twiston-Davies shook off any jet lag when partnering Bagheera Ginge to victory in the 2m5½f novice hurdle after riding at Aqueduct in the US on Thursday.
